ABOG at MGC 2018: The Plans

Midwest Gaming Classic (MGC) 2018 is happening Saturday April 14th 10AM-8PM and Sunday April 15th 10AM-5PM at the Wisconsin Center in downtown Milwaukee. Tix and more information available via this link: midwestgamingclassic.com

Plan on attending? What will you being doing during the downtime?

Let's get together and chat up video games and music over beers. Fingers and toes crossed a rogue European makes the trip over. Be a part of the first time ABOG co-hosts are together in person. This year is going to be epic.

Thursday Night -- April 12th

Can't visit Milwaukee without enjoying a brat and no place in town serves brats (and other fine sausages) that taste better than Vanguard. This isn't a brat like dad grills however. Vanguard offers eclectic choices with top notch ingredients and flavors. Plus they pour good craft beers and have an old-school wrestling theme with televisions usually showing classic matches. Before you leave, have your picture taken with Milwaukee's own wrestling legend The Crusher.

Check out this menu and start prepping for what you'll eat. Good luck choosing just one: vanguardbar.com

Sugar Maple

With your stomach full of fine sausage, we'll head next to one of my favorite watering holes Sugar Maple. Featuring 60 American craft beers on tap and a very chill atmosphere. Excellent place to visit with a group of friends as they have tables off to the side with plenty of room to chat. If the conversation ever gets dull, which it won't, there are plenty of conversation starters hanging all around the bar in the form of paintings by local artists. But it's about the beer and Sugar Maple has the finest selection in town including many IPA's.

Friday Afternoon & Evening -- April 13th

Lakefront Brewery

Meet at 4PM in the lobby at the Hilton

For starters we'll walk the Milwaukee Riverwalk (weather permitting) for a bit of exercise before we replenish those lost calories with tasty beers. We'll enjoy a brewery tour, a few beers and some dinner at Lakefront Brewery. The beers that made Milwaukee famous have all since moved on or become shadows of their former glory but we do have some good craft beer offerings in town including at our starting point on Friday. Tour costs $11 and includes four samples at the end. Compliment the tasty brews with a Wisconsin fish fry and some fried cheese curds.

Uber Tap Room and Cheese Bar

We'll walk back down the Riverwalk being sure to say hey to the Bronze Fonze before stopping at our next destination the Uber Tap Room and Cheese Bar. Choose a beer and cheese pairing from a list of 36 local brews and many artisan cheeses. When in Rome as they say. Right next door is a barcade so we'll more than likely hang here and there for the rest of the evening mixing beer, cheese and classic arcade/pinball.

1983 Arcade Bar

New to Milwaukee this barcade is located near the event and seems to fit right in with the ABOG motif. Featuring 22 arcade classics, 4 pinball machines and a decent list of craft beers.

I'm going there next weekend to check it out in person and confirm will be a fun time together. If not, more beer and cheese is never a bad thing.

Saturday Evening -- April 14th

The Gleasons at The House of Guinness

Meet at 8:30PM in lobby at the Hilton.

Good friends of ABOG are playing a local Irish pub on Saturday night. I'll provide the transportation and we'll head out to Waukesha, a suburb of Milwaukee, to rock out with original celtic rock tunes. The Gleasons are a ton of fun live. As as added bonus, we can practice saying "Waukesha" so you can take back home with you the ability to dazzle your friends with words only Wisconsinites can pronounce.

Sunday Evening -- April 15th

Margo Price at Turner Hall

Just so happens that Margo Price is playing my favorite venue Turner Hall right after Midwest Gaming Classic ends. If you're still in town and not traveling home until Monday morn, check out Margo Price and the venue you've heard me talk about the podcast many times over. Tix should still be available up until showtime. Venue is right across the street from MGC. Can't get much more convenient than that.
